Today’s the day. In just over an hour I’m going to toe up to the line of a 5k and see if the last six weeks have made any noticeable difference in my running. I’m going to test the theory that heavy strength training on my legs with little running can improve a runner’s speed.
This morning I feel good, I feel ready. I don’t know what the race will bring. I’d, obviously, love to break my current 5k PR of 21:21, but I’m unsure if I’ll do it. If I am able to set a new PR then I wonder just what it will be. Will I make marginal gains and shave off a few seconds, as I (disappointingly) did the last time I PRed? Or will I be able to knock off a decent chunk of time? If that happens does this validate this alternative training? Or is it just dumb luck and a good running day? In just a couple of hours I’ll have the answers to at least some of these questions.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! Get out there and get some exercise today, before stuffing your face with all that delicious food! Gobble! Gobble!
